Join artist Ross Manning for a special Art Club hands-on workshop where you will learn how to turn light into sound. The light-sensitive audio electronics you make at the workshop will be performed in an improvised jam at the IMA. All materials provided, and no special skills are required.
Manning, aside from his visual art practice, is an instrument builder and musician. He builds a variety of sound-producing objects from electronic light-sensitive to acoustic semi-random automata and sound sculpture. Manning uses elements of the vocabulary of sound in most of his works, drawing upon ideas of rhythm, repetition, oscillation and coloured light as composition.
Art Club is for art-lovers aged 14–19. Participants get to explore behind-the-scenes of a contemporary art gallery, acquire practical creative skills, and collaborate and develop relationships with like-minded peers, artists, and IMA staff.
Tickets are $20 for IMA members, and $30 for non-members. Register on Eventbrite here.
