  • Event Cost:
    Free

Please join the IMA’s Operations Manager, Madeleine King for a look at current exhibitions Dale Harding: White Collared and Patrick Staff: The Foundation through the lens of fashion. In this lecture, King will discuss the way both artists use the tropes and materials of dress to convey ideas of genealogy, identity, memory and social change. She’ll connect fashion history and theory with the exhibitions’ social and political contexts (race, gender, sexuality), and materials (leather, rubber, chain, hessian, lace), to consider how dress throughout history has evoked the sensual poles of pleasure and pain.

After completing a Master of Arts at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, King combined her research interests in fashion and art, and co-founded online journal and curatorial outfit The Fashion Archives. She recently completed a research fellowship at the John Oxley Library, Brisbane and is currently working on a book with collaborator Nadia Buick called Remotely Fashionable.

This event is free, and open to everyone.
