In Conversation, Deb Alvoen, Lu Forsberg & Amelia Hine

26 May 2018 – 2:00PM-3:00PM

Event Type: Artist Talk Talks

In conjunction with their current exhibition Transparency and other worries, Lu Forsberg will be leading a discussion with Deb Alvoen and Amelia Hine. Sharing personal, professional, and political perspectives, this panel will discuss our psychological proximity to mining, and how access impacts this relationship.

After a chance encounter on a recent research trip to the location of Adani’s proposed Carmichael Mine, Deb Alvoen drew Forsberg a map enabling them to navigate to the site. Alvoen provides a unique perspective on the social impacts of mining, having previously worked in Community Relations for Rio Tinto, and as an Executive Officer for QLD Parks and Wildlife Service.

Amelia Hine is a current PhD candidate located in the Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation at the University of Queensland. Her research focuses the more-than-human relationships that are shaped by and influence mine closure and landscape planning.
