Main Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Artistic Program
• Working with the Director, researching, developing, implementing, and managing the artistic program (including exhibitions, events, publications, touring shows, and offsite projects), delivering it on time and on budget
• Managing production and installation of exhibitions
• Appointing and oversee installation crews
• Overseeing and co-ordinating touring exhibitions, including liaising with venues, securing funding, making touring manuals and completing condition reports
• Working with Director and Designer, managing the preparation and production of publications, invitations, marketing material, and advertising
• Developing projects for regional touring
Public Program
• Developing and managing the public program, including regular events for 'Open Late on Thursdays' (the public program will include artists and curators talks, lectures, screenings, concerts, and book launches; and will address aspects of art, music, cinema, design, architecture, and fashion)
Management
• Working with the Director, maintaining, implementing, and developing management systems
• Assisting the Director in liasing with and reporting to funding agencies
• Supervising and directing the Program Assistant; delegating their work, monitoring their performance, and providing training
Administration
• Preparing and monitoring contracts with artists, writers, lenders, galleries, etc, including loan agreements
• Preparing and monitoring publishing contracts with co-publishers, writers, editors and artists (distribution is the responsibility of the Administrator)
• Completing exhibition and publication grant acquittals and reports
Media
• Liaising with media where required by the Director
Finance
• Working with the Director, developing and managing program budgets, and advising the director of potential financial issues, particularly overspends
• With the Director, preparing funding and sponsorship applications to government and other agencies
Continuous Professional Development
• Furthering own knowledge of management methods and principles, and displaying this by making suggestions for realistic improvements
• Monitoring trends within the industry and making suggestions on how these could be implemented
Selection Criteria
• Art-history, museum studies, or fine-arts degree
• Three years experience in gallery and exhibitions management
• Demonstrated experience in developing and managing budgets, and in writing successful grant applications
• The ability to work in a pressurised environment on competing deadlines and unsupervised
• Excellent communication skills, in person and in writing
• Knowledge of local, national, and international contemporary-art practice
• Connection with the local and wider art communities and service providers
• Flexibility and willingness to work outside normal hours on occasion, as required
• Current driver's licence
Salary
$45–55,000 p.a., plus super, commensurate with experience.
