Hobart’s Pat Brassington is famed for her perverse, photoshopped images drawing on the surrealist photography tradition. Her new series Cambridge Roadplays on the haunted house genre. These documentary—perhaps forensic—images feature young women in an empty house, standing around, playing dead, wearing dust masks. There are ominous domestic close-ups: a coat hanger, stuffed toys, a bed, a closet. At times, stains or light flares suggest spectral presences, recalling spirit photography.
