Ongoing Collaborations

The IMA collaborates with partners from our field and beyond in order to deliver ambitious projects, share our initiatives widely in Australia and internationally, and to add diverse voices to our exhibitions, public programs, and publications.

April

April is a group of institutions that engages in an exchange moving towards formulating a space for shared action, a platform for research, institutional learning, and affection. This informal alliance currently includes Art in General, New York; Beirut, Cairo; CCA Derry~Londonderry; FormContent, London; IMA, Brisbane; Kunsthalle Lissabon, Lisbon.

OtherFilm

OtherFilm is an artists’ collective that, since 2004, has explored the creative possibilities of experimental film, video, music, and live performance by curating numerous festivals, international screening programs, and exhibitions. OtherFilm is driven by a central curiosity about the limits of the moving image, and its capacity to reorganise human perception. OtherFilm is co-directed by Sally Golding in London, Joel Stern in Melbourne, and Danni Zuvela in Burleigh Heads.

MONO

MONO is an ongoing exploration into sound and adventurous music curated by Lawrence English (Room40) for the IMA. Over the past seven years, MONO has sought to explore the diverse nature of sound practices, reflecting on the sonic polyphonies of the twenty-first century. The series has hosted musicians from across the globe, among them Merzbow, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Robin Fox, Oval, Ben Frost, Tim Hecker, Oneohtrix Point Never, David Toop, Marco Fuscinato, Akio Suzuki, Tetsuya Umeda, and many others. MONO and its sister series microMONO seek to test for the very edges of practice and through that process reveal to the ears the profundity of sound as a medium for expression.
