Join us on Saturday 30 July as we unveil three exciting new projects by three leading contemporary artists: the first solo exhibitions in Australia by Luke Willis Thompson and Maryam Jafri; and a monumental outdoor artwork by Vernon Ah Kee to inaugurate our new initiative, the IMA Courtyard Commission.

While varied in their approaches, all three artists address unequal power relationships, the politics of representation, and the legacies of colonisation within the Asia Pacific region. Each also redress ‘official’ narratives and overlooked communities, questioning what is remembered and what is forgotten in sanctioned records of the past through work that is symbolically or physically imbued with contentious histories.

At 4pm there will be a conversation featuring artist Luke Willis Thompson, academic Dr Danny Butt, UQ Anthropology Museum Director Dr Diana Young, and IMA Directors Aileen Burns and Johan Lundh.

Free, all welcome.
