Rotten Descent Necklace by Lorissa Toweel

Rotten Descent
Necklace from the Rotten Hearts series
By Lorissa Toweel

Sterling silver triple pendant on a delicate silver chain
A vertical arrangement of three hand-cast sterling silver hearts. Each form is imperfect, worn, carrying the air of profound apathy or mild annoyance. They hang in a staggered drop on a fine silver chain, their surfaces oxidised and polished to emphasize their texture and quiet presence.
Part of the ‘Rotten Hearts’ series, these forms are not quite broken, just… over it.

Lorissa Toweel is a Brisbane-based artist, raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. In her formative years, designing and crafting provided an outlet for the musings of her mind. Honouring her desire to create, she pursued an Arts education. A diploma in Visual Arts with TAFE Southbank was quickly followed by bachelor’s degree in Fine Art through Queensland College of Art (QCA), Griffith University. Her practice explores fragility of memory and the complexity of human relationships and trauma.

The Rotten Hearts series is a series of cast silver miserable hearts. Each one carries its own expression — bored, annoyed, exhausted, over it. These aren’t symbols. They don’t offer meaning. They don’t ask to be understood. Just silver forms with faces — unimpressed and fully committed to the bit. For anyone feeling slightly unhinged, vaguely cursed, or just not in the mood.
