Town Hall
The definitive voice on Queensland Art
There’s more going on in Queensland art than you might think, but it can be hard to find without a map. Town Hall—a free newspaper, published biannually by the Institute of Modern Art—gathers the brightest and best in Queensland art.
As the go-to report on Queensland art, it frames and fosters our layered art scene, enhancing its visibility and viability. Our first issue was published in March 2024 to community and industry acclaim, with a run of 4,000 and an accumulated readership of 10,000. We’ve published four issues since, with Town Hall No.5 upcoming in April.
Town Hall features smart, accessible, topical writing: news, editorials, op-eds, columns, profiles, exhibition previews, interviews—even a quiz.
It’s timely, with an emphasis on previews rather than reviews, drawing attention to what’s happening, prompting readers to visit shows being covered and join the discussion.
Town Hall doesn’t stay in its lane. It expands into areas like music and cinema, design and fashion.
