In 2015, Room40 is celebrating 15 years of cutting-edge music making with the label’s 15 series. The IMA will host two exclusive sideshows for Room40’s Open Frame festival at Sydney’s Carriageworks on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August. An Australian experimental label run by composer, artist, and curator Lawrence English, Room40 has published over 150 editions from artists spanning almost every continent. The IMA and Room40 is delighted to host this homecoming event, announcing the wave of artists to perform: William Basinski (USA), Hypnosis Display (Grouper + Paul Clipson, USA), Makino Takashi (JP), and Ross Manning (AU). Room40 has also commissioned a world premiere diffusion composition for Open Frame by Jim O’Rourke (USA/JP), which will be presented on his behalf on the evening by English. This is a ticketed event and capacity is limited. Purchase your tickets by clicking here. These events are made possible with support from Brisbane City Council Creative Sparks and Australia Council for the Arts.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
