What is Performance Art? Australian Perspectives is a new publication that brings together texts from leading theorists and practitioners in the field, creating an extensive critical archive documenting Australian performance art’s first fifty years.

Join a conversation with publication contributor Laini Burton and featured artist Simone Hine at the IMA. Burton and Hine will discuss Australian performance art’s rich history from the 1970s through to performance art practices today, drawing on some of the histories, theories, interpretations, and testimonials presented in the publication.

Don’t miss your chance to pick up the book for a special price of $35 (RRP $45) and join the discussion.

What is Performance Art? Australian Perspectives is edited by Adam Geczy and Mimi Kelly and published by Power Publications.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
