As a prelude to the launch edition of Frontier Imaginaries opening May 14th across both Institute of Modern Art and the QUT Art Museum, the Australian Cinematheque at QAGOMA will host the new cinélecture DASH, by Singaporean artist Ho Rui An this Wednesday 11 May at 7pm in Cinema B.

DASH begins with footage of an accident captured from a dashcam. Reflecting on this new cinematic viewpoint from behind the dashboard, the lecture considers how the affects of anticipation and anxiety thus generated figure within a risk-managed and financially hedged era. Of special interest are the futures thinking and “horizon scanning” programs run by the Singapore government. As a close examination of such programmes reveals, the central element of the apparatus is not the algorithm but the analyst.

The lecture will be remanifested as a video installation after its performance at the QUT Art Museum as a part of Frontier Imaginaries: The Life of Lines, running May 14 to August 14, 2016. Its counterpart Frontier Imaginaries: No Longer At Ease runs from May 14 to July 9 at the Institute of Modern Art.
