Event proppaNOW Trivia Night

proppaNOW Trivia Night

First Thursdays

6 June 2019
6–9pm

Join members of the legendary proppaNOW Collective and put your art knowledge to the test in this special trivia night edition of First Thursdays.

Members of the collective including Vernon Ah Kee, Megan Cope, Jennifer HerdGordon Hookey, and Laurie Nilsen will give an introduction to their practices and the origins of proppaNOW. Then rub shoulders with the artists themselves and have a chance at winning some great prizes in a round of proppaNOW-themed trivia. No need to register a team, just come along for a fun, casual night at the IMA.

In fitting proppaNOW style, there will be yarns and laughs aplenty, as well as a chance to dance it out at the end of the night with Hannah Brontë on the decks.

proppaNOW was established in Brisbane in 2003 to give urban-based Aboriginal artists a voice. They present a unique and controversial perspective of black Australia which is sometimes confronting and always thought provoking. Current members Vernon Ah Kee, Tony Albert, Richard Bell, Megan Cope, Jennifer Herd, Gordon Hookey, and Laurie Nilsen are all established artists and well respected in their own right. Collectively, they are an Australian success story.

This event is hosted by the IMA and supported by Brisbane City Council’s Indigenous Art Program and Blaklash Projects.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
