Hear activists Clare Land and Bogaine Spearim in conversation, presented in conjunction with our show Tom Nicholson: Drawings and Correspondence. This talk is a must for anyone interested in the complexities and responsibilities of activism.

Land has been a non-Aboriginal supporter of Aboriginal struggles since 1998. Her 2015 book Decolonizing Solidarity: Dilemmas and Directions for Supporters of Indigenous Struggles is based on interviews with Aboriginal community members and non-Aboriginal activists, and what Land learned through her activist work in southeastern Australia.

Spearim, a Kooma and Gamilaraay person, is a member of Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance and one of the hosts of ‘Let’s Talk’ on 98.9FM radio.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
