Off Grid 5: Kevin O'Brien: In Search of an Architectural Culture
Architecture discussion
16 July 2026
6.00pm
Queensland’s architecture is not a problem that has already been solved. As a field of works, agencies, conditions, and technologies, it has sustained enduring scrutiny, debate and activation across the cultural spectrum, from books to buildings. What lies beyond, or beneath, the cast of figures who have to date given it substance? What obstacles to new kinds of problems, scales of attention, or relationships within the state, or between Queensland and elsewhere, might we name and confront? Join us for an informal lecture exploring this theme by Meanjin/Brisbane architect Kevin O’Brien (BVN), followed by a conversation with architectural historian Andrew Leach (Queensland University of Technology).
Networking drinks to follow the discussion. Seating limited. Registration essential.
This event is supported by QUT’s Queensland Architecture research group within series Off Grid: a program of architecture discussions led by Andrew Wilson, Senior Lecturer in Architecture at University of Queensland, and Andrew Leach, Professor of Architectural History at Queensland University of Technology, both Meanjin/Brisbane.
