In Colour

23 November 2017

Thursday 23 November 2017, we heard from New York-based architect, educator, and curator Eva Franch for a special In Colour lecture. Franch specialises in the making of alternative architecture histories and futures. She is the Chief Curator and Executive Director of Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York since 2010, and Professor at The Cooper Union School of Architecture. Franch discussed colour in the context of art, design, and politics, looking specifically at colour and ideology.

Eva Franch’s lecture was followed by a Q & A with Professor Sandra Kaji-O’Grady, who has published on the topic of colour and ideology in architecture.

Eva Franch’s visit to Australia was organised by the Institute of Modern Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. She also presented the Lloyd Rees Lecture in Sydney, 22 November.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
