In Conversation, Dale Harding and Steve Kemp

14 February, 2019

Artist Dale Harding (Bidjara, Garingbal and Ghungalu peoples) is joined in conversation with Steve Kemp (Ghungalu peoples), a traditional medicine specialist from Woorabinda in Central Queensland.

Kemp continues the legacy that his father Tim Kemp created as a noted Ghungalu plants specialist, with his expertise in their traditional uses and in medicine. Harding and Kemp discuss the interconnectedness of trees and other plants in Central and South-East Queensland; and how the legacy of such knowledges resist current forces of cultural and spiritual dispossession.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
