Jeremy Hynes Award

Since 2009, the IMA has had the honour of presenting the Jeremy Hynes Award to experimental Queensland artists, from a bequest made by the late experimental artist’s family in his name.

We are calling for applications from experimental Queensland artists (individuals or collectives) for the eighth and final instalment of the award. The recipient will be given $10,000 to produce an exhibition or project at the IMA in 2025.

Here, we understand Queensland artists to mean artists who were born here, live here, or have lived here. By experimental, we mean artists operating outside the white-cube context, artists who explore new media, artists who are interdisciplinary, and artists who embrace risk. There is no age restriction.

Applicants will be assessed on their overall practice with the support of the submitted written responses, CV, portfolio, and linked content. We are seeking applications which demonstrate experimentation, artistic courage, clarity of idea, and are scoped to the funds available.

Applications should be made via the submission form before Sunday 23 June 2024, 11.59pm.*

*Note: The application deadline has been extended from Sunday 9 June to Sunday 23 June 2024.

Applicants should include

—their name and contact details
—a one-page project pitch, scoped to the available funds
—a CV and a portfolio of previous works or a link to their website.

If more information is needed, applicants will be contacted.
