Announcing: the first exhibition in Australia by Marianna Simnett
Opens February 2020
4 November 2019
We are excited to announce the first exhibition of our 2020 program—a solo exhibition by London-based artist Marianna Simnett: CREATURE.
The exhibition will bring together a body of video and sculptural work telling wicked tales of transformation with a cast of children, beasts, and mutants. Surveying the last six years of Simnett’s practice, alongside new work, this will be the largest solo exhibition of her moving image and sculptural work to date.
The IMA is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, the Australian Government through Australia Council for the Arts, and the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian Federal, State, and Territory Governments. The IMA is a member of Contemporary Art Organisations Australia.
The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
