Celebrating Forty Years

1 December 2014

Since its establishment in 1975, the IMA has been a leading venue for the production, presentation and circulation of contemporary art in Queensland. As one of the Australia’s first non-collecting public galleries, the IMA has played an integral role in developing contemporary art locally, nationally, and internationally.

Throughout its fortieth year, the IMA will embark on a yearlong project that explores this institution’s historical mission, while imaging what it could mean today and for the future. The full program for 2015 will be launched in early February.

Please help us make our fortieth year the best one yet by donating or getting involved. Interested? Please contact  Ally Bennett for more details.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
