un Magazine 19.1 – Resonant imaginaries and sound clashes: contemporary – political – disruptive – polyrhythmic
2025
This issue of un Magazine takes sound as its organising question — not sound as ambient backdrop or aesthetic effect, but as a site of political and ancestral knowledge. Edited by Lucreccia Quintanilla, the volume assembles artists, writers, and practitioners whose work engages modes of listening that resist assimilation into Euro-centric critical discourse. The result is a publication alert to the polyrhythmic, the disruptive, and the intersectional: voices that work concurrently, clash, and refuse easy synthesis. For practitioners and thinkers invested in decolonial approaches to sonic and contemporary art, this issue is a substantive resource.
Edited by Lucreccia Quintanilla with contributions from Victoria Pham, Edwina Stevens, Suneel Jethani, Anabelle Lacroix, Dale Collier & Nicholas Currie, Samuel Beilby, Wen Pei Low, Hannah Wickramasuriya, mgmgmgmg, Ripley Kavara & Nadeem Eshraghi (great ocean volumes), Shareeka Helaluddin / Aasma Tulika, Justine Makdessi, Hayden Ryan, Eduardo Cossio & Ross Bolleter, and Geoff Robinson
