Join Megan Cope as she speaks about her work, Foundations II, in Material Politics: our current exhibition that features artists who use everyday materials and approaches to explore issues of ecology, inequality, surveillance, and sovereignty.
In Foundations II, Cope brings together oyster shells, a core material used to form middens on the artist’s country, North Stradbroke Island, and cement, the material being extracted from that land to form other foundations elsewhere.
For this talk, Cope will explore this work, together with a broader discussion of her artistic practice, and the themes that have continued to impact her work.

Megan Cope
Megan Cope is a Quandamooka woman from North Stradbroke Island. Her works have been presented at PARAsite Gallery in Hong Kong, and City Gallery, Wellington in New Zealand, the IMA, Brisbane, and Artspace Sydney, amongst other institutions. In 2017, a major new work was commissioned for The National in Sydney and is currently on view at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Cope is also a member of the Brisbane-based Aboriginal Art Collective proppaNOW.
