Ryosuke Kiyasu, Brisbane Conduction Orchestra, and Girls on Drugs
Performance
12 September 2025
6-9pm
Join us for a night of explosive free improv.
A pioneering snare-drum soloist from Japan, Ryosuke Kiyasu has been redefining percussion since 2003. With over 200 releases spanning solo and band work, he continues to tour globally, delivering a singular, banging blend that has made the snare drum a headline instrument. Expect thunderous blows and neighbourhood noise complaints.
Formed in 2017 by Benjamin Shannon, Brisbane Conduction Orchestra takes inspiration from Anthony Braxton and Lawrence ‘Butch’ Morris’s free form ‘conduction’. Harmony, melody, tempo, progression, and articulation will be squeezed, manipulated, and scrambled in real time. The sonic and gestural possibilities are endless.
Ever-evolving, Girls on Drugs—Meanjin/Brisbane experimentalists Yvette Ofa Agapow and Oscar Keating—follows a cyclic process of musical fellowship. Working together and counteracting, the duo will seesaw, finding harmony amidst instrumental breaking points.
