Now in her eighties, Argentine-born, French-based composer Beatriz Ferreyra is a musique-concrète pioneer. Her legacy is as surprising as it is inspiring. Her solo compositions—which explore the material nature of sound in space—are dynamic, powerful affairs, rich in detail and texture. As a member of Group of Musical Researches in the 1960s, she worked under Pierre Schaeffer, contributing to his seminal 1966 text ‘Traité des Objets Musicaux’ and to the realisation of his 1967 work ‘Solfège de l’Objet Sonore’. Don’t miss Ferreyra’s first appearance in Australia, where she will perform two sets of multi-channel sound works from across her career.

Mono is a sound program curated by Lawrence English of Room 40.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
