Canadian post-ambient minimalist composer Loscil (Scott Morgan) interrogates pulse, harmony, and texture to create vast, enveloping auditory transcriptions of landscapes, architectures, and his home on the Canadian west coast. On his latest album Lake Fire (2025), he charts the smouldering intensities of British Columbia’s recent wave of wildfires, speaking simultaneously to destructive forces and the rebirth that follows.

Berlin based Ira Hadžić works with gongs, radiophonic forms, field recordings, resonance, minimal sonic gestures, and silence itself to explore sound as a site of presence and perception.

Mono is the IMA’s experimental sound program curated by Lawrence English/Room40. Since 2006, it has brought sonic experimentation and boundary-pushing performance to Brisbane/Meanjin. It turns twenty in 2026.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
