Join us for a double screening of Regard sur la Folie and Le Moindre Geste, presented as part of Desire Is a Machine, curated by our Adjunct Curator Stephanie Berlangieri.
Filmed at Saint-Alban under Dr. François Tosquelles, Regard sur la Folie (1961) was the first film to document life inside an asylum, offering a rare glimpse of the early experiments in institutional psychotherapy that would influence anti-psychiatric practice. 47 minutes.
Filmed over several years by Fernand Deligny, Josée Manenti, and Jean-Pierre Daniel, Le Moindre Geste (1964–71) is a poetic, semi-fictional film that follows a young non-verbal boy in rural care. Emerging from Deligny’s experimental network for autistic children and his critique of institutional psychiatry, it rejects conventional narrative in favour of gestures, rhythms, and relational space.105 minutes.
