Katie Bourchier approaches jewellery with playful irreverence. Made using ancient lost-wax casting, her work both follows and exceeds traditional silversmithing rules. She views her process as ritualistic.

Through her signature inverted-face iconography—a nod to portraiture, cameos, puppetry, and ancient protection symbols—she invites wearers to develop their own personal meanings. Join us at the IMA Gallery Shop for the launch of Bourchier’s new collection.

Snack is a pop-up concept store within the IMA Gallery Shop, platforming functional, affordable products by local artists. Shop a taste of the local art scene and meet the makers.

Guest Info
  • Katie Bourchier is a jeweller and small-objects artist, living in Meanjin/Brisbane. She studied Jewellery at Queensland College of Art. Taking an interest in mythology and ancient history, her signature designs are narratives on the beautiful absurdity of our natural and cosmic worlds.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
