Simone Jones and Jasmine Togo-Brisby are the creatives behind South Sea Sisters and proud 4th generation Australian South Sea Island women with ancestral lineage to Ambae and Santo Islands of Vanuatu. Simone has a background in fashion and Jasmine is a visual artist.

We are the youngest of four sisters, born in Northern NSW with family in Mackay and Tweed Heads. We come from a long line of strong vibrant and expressive South Sea Island women and the creation of South Sea Sisters is our dream materialised. Born out of a desire to feel connected, be seen and create a space where we struggled to find one. Acknowledging that we as South Sea are a people in Australia. Our exclusive designs proudly represent our cultural identity and aim to empower through visibility. South Sea Sisters products are designed and created in our studio, located in Meanjin/Brisbane.

Australian South Sea Islanders are the descendants of the Blackbirding trade, from 1856 to 1908 more than 62,500 Pacific Islanders were trafficked from predominantly Vanuatu and Solomon Islands to established Australian industries including sugar, maritime, pastoral, cotton and railways. In 1994 South Sea Islanders were recognised by the Commonwealth government as ‘a distinct cultural group’, however our cultural identity and history is still often unknown or misunderstood.
