Darby Ross Jampinjimpa - Make it good for the people
This exhibition and publication project celebrates the role of Darby Jampijinpa Ross as a senior founding artist and mentor at the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Association, following the inception of the art center at Yuendumu in 1985-6. Today it is one of Australia’s most successful remote community art enterprises. In almost 20 years of painting on canvas, Darby Jampijinpa Ross never had a solo exhibition of his work, preferring instead to participate in group shows. This is the first celebration of his story as an artist, made via a selection of his paintings on loan from important museum and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria.
