See Leilah Weinraub’s film Shakedown (2017) at New Farm Cinemas, presented by Queensland Film Festival (QFF), the Brisbane Queer Film Festival, and the IMA.

Shakedown is the story of Los Angeles’ black lesbian strip club scene and its genesis. The underground and illegal club, Shakedown, emerged from post-riots, post-OJ trial racial divisions in early 2000’s LA. Owned and operated by women, the parties produced an independent, all-black and all-female cash economy.

Featuring interviews with and performances by Shakedown’s stars, this documentary chronicles the club’s legacy as a space for queer women of colour and shows a look at female desire rarely presented on the big screen.

Please note: This film contains scenes of a graphic sexual nature. This screening is 18+.
