2025 marks fifty years since the Institute for Modern Art first opened its doors in Brisbane. For five decades, we’ve presented the latest contemporary art; connecting the local, national, and international, the established and the emergent; offering a hub for the art life in Brisbane. We have navigated the chops, changes, and paradigm shifts that have marked the art of our times. To celebrate this milestone, we are presenting three public forums and capping off with our iconic annual benefit gala.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
