Join German curator and writer Axel Wieder for his first visit to Brisbane.

Wieder is currently the director of Bergen Kunsthall in Norway and was previously the director of Index— the Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation in Stockholm (2014-2018), and head of program at Arnolfini Centre of Contemporary Arts in Bristol (2012-2014). In this talk he will discuss his time working on past projects, speaking specifically about the city as field of resonance, exhibitions as activities, and his experiences at both smaller and larger institutions.

  • Axel Weider

    From 2007 to 2010 Axel Wieder was artistic director of Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, and was a visiting curator at Ludlow 38, Goethe-Institut New York in 2010. He studied art history and cultural theory at the University of Cologne and the Humboldt University in Berlin, specialising in conceptual art, the history of exhibitions, and modern architecture. In 1999, together with Jesko Fezer and Katja Reichard, he founded Pro qm, a bookstore and a venue for experimental events in the field of art and urbanism in Berlin. He has held lecturing posts at various universities and art academies, including the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
