A decade since his last visit to Brisbane, US-born, Swiss-based musician Jason Kahn returns with a new embodied-performance work. Using a chaotic feedback system, he creates sound by placing his body in the circuit. Grabbing the open leads of a modular synthesiser, he makes and breaks circuits, causing his synthesiser to overload or momentarily collapse. A mixing board, contact microphones, electromagnetic inductors, and the synthesiser’s outputs are used to modulate the synthesiser’s parameters, resulting in a dynamic system, difficult to control, but allowing great expressivity—much like any acoustic instrument, only electronic.
