Where do artists come from? Is it a matter of choice to become an artist, or do some predefined qualities make it inescapable?

As part of The Working Life, Vilnius-based artist Darius Mikšys will host an Artists Parents Meeting at the IMA on Thursday 5 June, where these and other questions will be addressed in a private forum. Artists Parents Meetings are live artworks in which Mikšys gathers the parents of artists for an encounter and conversation. The meeting itself works somewhat like a group therapy session.

After the Artists Parents Meeting there will be a public reception where you can mingle and ask Mikšys and the parents questions.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
