Event Poetics of Relation: Dusk Walking Tour

Poetics of Relation: Dusk Walking Tour

10 March 2022
5–6.30pm

As the sun goes down over Meanjin/Brisbane, join Professor Felicity Meakins on a walking tour to read and discuss Khaled Sabsabi’s Poetics of Relation, a work made for the exhibition This Language That Is Every Stone. Sabsabi positions selected pages from Martinican philosopher Édouard Glissant’s text The Poetics of Relation onto the city’s streets, changing weekly for a month, from 25 February. Meakins will share her insights into Glissant’s work and connect it to her linguistic fieldwork researching language evolution and contact processes throughout Australia. The walking tour will traverse the public spaces of Fortitude Valley and finish at Stone and Wood Brewing, where we invite you to continue discussions over a beverage.

Schedule:
5pm: Meet at the IMA to view This Language That Is Every Stone.
5.30pm: Tour departs from IMA courtyard.
6.30pm: Tour concludes at Stone and Wood Brewing, 99 Bridge St, Fortitude Valley.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
