Spencer Harvie is hosting an experimental ‘exquisite corpse’ drawing workshop at the IMA that reconsiders our online, image-saturated experience through analogue processes. Starting with surrealist parlour games to provide prompts, participants will use methods including tracing, collaging, erasure, and remixing to explore the role of drawn images in the era of information overload.

Registration is essential. All materials supplied. Limited to 12 participants.

After the session, join us for film screenings selected by Spencer Harvie that collapse tactile and online jankspaces.  Details forthcoming.

Guest Info
  • Spencer Harvie is a painter featured in Platform 2026, the Institute of Modern Art’s annual emerging artist exhibition. He explores dark, surreal, nonsensical aspects of online and fan subcultures. Processing the slop of found, AI-generated, and imagined imagery within an elaborate cartoon logic, Harvie unleashes the psychosexual horrors bubbling beneath.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
