Issue eight, as I’m sure you’ve already gathered by now, has less of that Australiana-type feel throughout the pages than it usually would. This issue carries a weight of louder traffic, busier streets, and taller buildings. Perspective came to me as I was walking through the streets of New York, just so intrigued by the people who inhabited it. It has this strange sense of familiarity that’s been ingrained into you without your awareness. I would have this constant inner dialogue with myself based on “If I grew up here, would I still be me, or has living and growing up in Australia moulded me into who I am… Like, what if I grew up somewhere completely different…?” So this issue came to fruition because of my own curiosity, where we got to chat with people (who all live in America) about how their environments may affect how they perceive things and how it affects their creative processes and practices.
