Guest Info
  • Norton Fredericks

Norton Fredericks is a queer Indigenous sustainable fibre artist based on Bullongin land, Gold Coast, who specialises in the ancient crafts of felting and botanical dyeing. Norton uses only natural fibres in his work and specialises in extracting dyes from Australian native plants.

In his work Norton looks at sustainable materials in a different light by highlighting their materiality and creating functional art that at the end of its life is completely biodegradable returning nutrients to the soil. Inspired by his surroundings Norton’s work highlights issues of sustainability and his deepening connection to country.

    Elena Dias-Jayasinha

Elena Dias-Jayasinha is an emerging Sri Lankan-Australian curator and art historian based in Brisbane. Her interests include the intersection of art and science, emotional perceptions of space, and the complexities of cultural identity. At the core of her practice is a belief in art as a tool to build empathy, strengthen community, and initiate change.

Elena studied Art History and Japanese at the University of Queensland. She was the 2020 recipient of the Paula and Tony Kinnane Art History Scholarship and recently curated the exhibition Music of Spheres at the University of Queensland Art Museum (2020–21).
