Join us for the Queensland premiere of the documentary Stelarc: Suspending Disbelief (2025), featuring an introduction and Q and A with co-director Richard Moore.

Cyprus-born, Melbourne-based, Stelarc has always fought to escape the force of gravity. Following his mantra that ‘the body is obsolete’, the film trails Stelarc as he sets about testing the limits of his own body in a series of death-defying stunts.

A third arm, an extra ear, and a cheeky prosthetic head play parts in this lively film, as Stelarc wrangles the intersection between humanity and technology.

The screening is part of Demo 3/4, an after-hours experiment at the Judith Wright Arts Centre presented by Outer Space and the Institute of Modern Art.

72 minutes.

Spaces limited. Bookings recommended.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
